An evening honouring the success of people with intellectual disabilities working in the community.

Connect Employment Services hosted its first annual “Sweet Success” event on April 6, 2006 at the Inn at the Forks.

The evening was a great success! The jazz stylings of Larry Roy & Steve Kirby provided the perfect backdrop to the evening, as the sold out crowd indulged in a delicious array of desserts, including cheesecakes, pastries, cakes and a chocolate fountain. The silent auction was also a big hit, particularly the custom-made tea set from Lizette Ptashnick, and the Inn at the Forks package. Guests also had the opportunity to flex their brain power with our door prize draw, which required people to guess the number of chocolate eggs being displayed in a glass vase. And would you believe it - one lucky person actually guessed the EXACT number of eggs in the vase!

When all is said and done, “Sweet Success” was an event of celebration. It launched a new phase in the life of our organization, and it offered an opportunity for us to celebrate the success that people with intellectual disabilities, and their supporters, have had in the community. During the evening awards were given to a number of individuals whose accomplishments were outstanding, including:

  • Tracy Beckwith, winner of the Personal Achievement award
  • YMCA_YWCA Winnipeg, South Branch winner of the Outstanding Employer award
  • Bri Van Alphen, winner of the Outstanding Connect Employee award
  • Josie Pope and Marg Saranchuk, winners of the Outstanding Volunteer award.

Congratulations to all the individuals who were nominated, and to those who received awards that evening. The recognition you received for your efforts was well deserved, and stands as shining example to others in the community.

This event succeeded because of the hard work and support of many. Thank you to the following people and businesses, who truly made our event a “Sweet Success!”
